On January 7th, firefighters from Jay, Livermore and LivermoreFalls held a joint training session for ice and cold water rescues. It has been an unusually mild winter and there is great concern that the danger is great for activities on local water bodies. The training was held at Round Pond in Livermore. The ice was very thin and most of the pond was open water. Firefighters reviewed safety guidelines for operations and practiced with gear and equipment that is available with the three towns. Jay Fire-Rescue’s rescue sled is a great tool to get across thin ice for a quick rescue. The training also provided the opportunity for rescuers to work with the new rescue boat and see the benefits and even some of the limitations of both units.
Additional photos from the training session are available for viewing at the photo gallery
.
The three departments also share in supporting early season snowmaking efforts at the Spruce Mountain Ski Slope which is owned jointly by the three towns. In this photo, Capt. Scott Richmond and Lt. Mark Chretien exercise Livermore’s new tanker/pumper to fill the snowmaking pond. Despite the supply of natural snow, area skiers and snowboarders have been able to enjoy their sport.
